The news of Sony and Panasonic jointly developing the new Archival Disc standard is refreshing, in contrast to the stupidity of the 4K fever at CES earlier this year.

A smartphone that shoots 4K? Seriously? How many 4K movies are you going to store on your 32GB microSD card? And even if we are talking about camcorders, how will you archive that much information in the long term?

Maybe the tech industry thinks your videos are just like their products: not worth keeping in in the long run.
